Quakers in Britain recently made the bold decision to disinvest from any investments in fossil fuels as part of their commitment to sustainable energy. This commitment was formally made at their annual conference in Canterbury in 2011, http://www.quaker.org.uk/minute-36 . In their statement Quakers say that “investing in companies which are engaged in fossil fuel extraction is incompatible with their commitment made in 2011 to become a sustainable low-carbon community”.
The decision follows the publication of a Quaker briefing, Ending fossil fuel dependency, http://www.quaker.org.uk/files/Fossil-fuels-anchor-briefing-FINAL.pdf . You can read the press statement here, http://www.quaker.org.uk/news/quakers-disinvest-fossil-fuels .
